The UFC recently announced the addition of a middleweight bout between debuting middleweights Gerald Harris and John Salter to the preliminary portion of its UFC Fight Night 20 event on Jan. 11 at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA.
Harris was originally set to face Mike Massenzio at UFC Fight Night 20, however, Massenzio was forced out of the event due to undisclosed reasons. It is very unfortunate for Massenzio, who was making his return to the Octagon for the first time since UFC 92 in December 2008 after spending the majority of 2009 recuperating from neck and knee injuries.
Harris (13-2), who was a cast member on the seventh season of the Ultimate Fighter, is currently on a seven-fight winning streak, most recently defeating former UFC fighter Nissen Osterneck at Shark Fights 6 in September to become the promotion's middleweight champion. He has not suffered a loss since being defeated by Benji Radach at an IFL event in August 2007.
The C3 Fights and Freestyle Cage Fighting veteran has finished 11 of his 13 career wins. He holds other notable victories during his three-year career over the likes of Robert McDaniel, Curtis Stout and Travis Doerge.
Since making his pro debut in March 2009, Salter has put together a 4-0 MMA record, all coming by stoppage. The King of the Cage veteran most recently scored a first-round TKO win over TUF 7 cast member Jeremiah Riggs in October. Salter, who is a former state high school wrestling champion and NAIA national champion, also holds a notable career win over veteran Roberto Travern at Adrenaline MMA 3 in June.
Headlining the Spike TV televised event, UFC Fight Night 20, is a crucial lightweight bout between TUF 5 alum Gray Maynard and Nate Diaz. In addition, undefeated lightweights Efrain Escudero and Evan Dunham will meet in the co-featured bout of the evening.
