A knee injury has forced American Top Team's Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante to withdraw from his upcoming DREAM 11 bout against Daisuke Nakamura, according to Tatame.com.
According to the report, Cavalcante twisted his knee while in wrestling practice. The injury is being diagnosed as a hairline fracture in his right knee. There is no timetable on when he will return. It is not yet known whether or not a replacement opponent will be sought for Nakamura.
Cavalcante is no stranger to injuries as he suffered a previous knee injury in 2008. The injury came in his loss against submission wizard Shinya Aoki at DREAM 2 in April 2008 and it kept him out for the remainder of the year.
"JZ" (14-3-1) has gone without a win in his last thee bouts, and he most recently lost against Tatsuya Kawajiri at DREAM 9 in May. He has not won a fight since Sept. 2007, when he defeated Andre Amade. Cavalcante has finished 12 of his 14 career wins, and holds notable career wins over the likes of Bart Palaszewski, Caol Uno, Nam Phan, Vitor Ribeiro, Hiroyuki Takaya and Rani Yahya.
DREAM 11 takes place on Oct. 6 from the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan. The event will feature the conclusion of DREAM's featherweight grand prix and semi-finals of the promotion's "Super Hulk" tournament as well as a third match up between Joachim Hansen and Shinya Aoki for the promotion's lightweight title.
