A lightweight bout between Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante and Daisuke Nakamura has been officially announced by DREAM today for its DREAM 11 event set to take place on October 6 from the Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa, Japan.
Dream also made official today that Gegard Mousasi has been forced to withdraw from his "Super Hulk" semi-final bout due to a shoulder injury as we reported yesterday, and a search to find a replacement opponent has begun in earnest for Rameau Sokoudjou. Hong Man Choi and Ikuhisa Minowa will meet in the other "Super Hulk" open weight semifinal bout.
"JZ" was originally rumored to be facing Bellator lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez at the event, however, the match up didn't come to fruition.
Cavalcante (14-3-1) has lost his last two bouts, which include losses to Shinya Aoki and most recently Tatsuya Kawajiri at DREAM 9 in May. He hasn't tasted victory since September 2007, when he defeated Andre Amade. The American Top Team Fighter has finished 12 of his 14 career wins and holds notable career wins over the likes of Bart Palaszewski, Caol Uno, Nam Phan, Vitor Ribeiro, Hiroyuki Takaya and Rani Yahya.
Nakamura (20-10) is coming off a victory over Ferrid Kheder at M-1: "Breakthrough" late last month and is now 9-1 in his last 10 fights. His only loss during the successful stretch came against Mitsuhiro Ishida at DREAM 7 in March. Over his seven year career, Nakamura has fought for promotions such as Pride, Deep and Cage Rage. Out of his 20 career wins, 16 have came via stoppage, including 12 by submission, and he holds notable career wins over Seichi Ikemoto and Shannon Ritch.
DREAM 11 also features the semi-final rounds of the promotion's Featherweight Grand Prix, as well as a third match up between Joachim Hansen and Shinya Aoki for the promotion's lightweight title.
