Gina Carano will not be fighting on Strikeforce's December 17 event and her return to MMA is unknown according to bloodyelbow.com.

Sources close to the event confirmed that Carano will not be fighting on December 17 as previously speculated. Carano has been out of action since her August 2009 bout with Cristiane Santos, where she was defeated via TKO in the first round.

Prior to the defeat, Carano sported a 7-0 record and became one of MMA's most popular female fighters. Earlier this year, Carano was scheduled to fight Sarah D'Alelio at the Strikeforce: Dallas event but pulled out last minute at the advice of her own personal doctor.

It is currently unknown when Carano will make a return to fighting.

Outside of the cage, Carano is set to debut as the lead heroine in the action film titled Haywire. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Haywire is set for a theatrical release early next year.
