by Gavin Vincent on March 08, 2009

Matt Hamill comes alive for his hometown of Columbus, Ohio at UFC 96. Hamill knocked out Mark Munoz with a devastating and somewhat surprising head kick. Munoz was instantly knocked out and handed his first loss. Munoz was making his UFC debut and Hamill welcomed him in with a first round knockout.

Munoz had success in the WEC (World Extreme Cage Fighting) before the promotion decided to cut out the heavier set classes. Many WEC fighters are forced to go to other organizations like the UFC but have yet to contend.

Fellow Ohio native Matt Brown ended his match in the first round with a questionable, then reversed stoppage of opponent Pete Sell. Brown cleary won the fight but argued it should have been stopped much quicker and said Sell took more damage than he deserved.
