The card shuffling at UFC 131 seems to be complete. Shane Carwin's promotion into the main event with Junior dos Santos left his opponent, Jon Olav Einemo, without an opponent. Dave Herman, who was already scheduled to compete on the card against Joey Beltran, has stepped up and agreed to replace Carwin as Einemo's opponent.
Now Joey Beltran was without an opponent. Fortunately Aaron Rosa has agreed to fill in for Herman and will fight Beltran.
The three heavyweight bouts at UFC 131 now include Junior dos Santos vs. Shane Carwin, Jon Olav Einemo vs. Dave Herman and Joey Beltran vs. Aaron Rosa.
Einemo and Herman will both be making their UFC debuts. Einemo, a 2003 ADCC world champion, has been out of the sport since 2006. Fights falling through had a big part to do with his absence, but Einemo also dealt with a flesh eating bacteria that nearly cost him his foot. Einemo holds a career record of 6-1, his only loss coming to Fabricio Werdum. He now trains with notable strikers Alistair Overeem and Semmy Schilt out of Golden Glory in Holland.
Herman made his way into the UFC due to the growing financial crisis with Japanese MMA. His previous promotion, Sengoku, was forced to release the heavyweight in order to cut spending. Herman is 20-2 on his career, with one loss by way of disqualification. A gifted fighter, the only thing holding Herman back from becoming a serious title contender is his lack of focus and commitment to the sport.
Meanwhile, Aaron Rosa jumps from promotions like Strikeforce, Bellator and Titan FC to the UFC. A 16-3 career record includes impressive victories over Abe Wagner and Devin Cole. Rosa will enter the fight on a four fight winning streak, with his last loss coming to former Strikeforce light heavyweight Rafael Cavalcante.
UFC 131 is scheduled for June 11 in Vancouver, Canada.
