Former UFC fighter and one time lightweight title challenger, Hermes Franca, is sentenced to over three years in jail for sexual abuse of an underaged student according to oregonlive.com.
Franca plead guilty Clackamas County Court on Wednesday to one count of unlawful penetration and one count of first-degree sexual abuse. The original charges were seven counts of sexual abuse and two counts of unlawful sexual penetration but the guilty plea reduced it to one count for each.
In addition to his prison sentence, Franca will be monitored for four and a half years upon his release from jail. He will also be registering as a sex offender.
Franca, a Florida native, turned himself in to Clackamas County Sheriff's Deputies in May 2011 after a warrant for his arrest was issued stemming from a late-2010 encounter with one of his students.
Franca has certainly taking a downward spiral since contesting for the UFC lightweight title in mid-2007. Franca, known for his varied hair colors, exited the UFC at UFC 103 with a KO loss to Tyson Griffin and has since fought to a 22-12 and one no contest record.
"Drinking, women, parties, all part of a lifestyle that has led to my failing as a husband, a father, a dreamer. I am now a man with very little freedom," Franca said.
