Highly decorated boxer James Toney signed by the UFC
by Giada Esposito on March 03, 2010

James Toney's outspoken bid to join the UFC has finally born fruit, as the 41-year old former high profile middleweight and super-middleweight boxing champion has now been signed to a multi-fight contract.

Toney (76-6-3 2 NC) is the current NABO and IBA heavyweight title holder and boasts 44 career knockouts. He first made his interest in competing for the UFC known after UFC 108, but at the time, was very publicly unable to reach a deal with the organization.

After Toney crashed the UFC 108 post-fight press conference UFC President Dana White said a fight featuring Toney would be a "freak show," promting Toney to fire back later with some choice words of his own.

"Dana White is a straight up ho!" Toney told FightHype.com. "He makes me a five-fight offer for chump change and said I can't box anymore if I accept it. He must have lost his damn mind. Dana White is embarrassing MMA. He says all this shit about how a boxer wouldn't last against an MMA fighter and now he's (expletive) scared to put his guys in there with me. I would beat all of their asses."

A debut date for Toney remains uncertain, but what is certain, is that when he steps into the Octagon he will do so as the most highly-decorated boxer in UFC history.

 |  (25) Comments Mtx: Meh, what can you say about this. Once again I feel DW is wasting money on a fighter who isn't worth it. I don't know how much he is paying him, but whatever it is, is still not worthy. Wandering_Minstrel: Ugh... this is ugly. Dana White should have stuck to his guns. Put him in there with Kimbo Slice... see what happens. :D MAStudent: Hopefully someone doesn't let off the RNC right away when he taps Giada Esposito: Anybody remember Jardine's offer to fight Toney earlier this year? I would actually like to see that fight happen now. It would give the "Dean of Mean" a chance to rebound from UFC 110, and would certainly be a tough test for Toney. LexTalionis: I doubt anyone in the UFC will be able to KO or TKO him, i only remember Toney being floored once by RJJ, one knockdown and 0 stoppages in 83 fights. I expect him to get mauled though, they'll throw him in with someone easy to start off with and i'd imagine he'd lose a decision, he'll either be a very small HW or a big LHW, i don't know how much weight he can cut but if i remember right his weight in his last fight was somewhere near 215, and he's under 6 foot The Hitman: on the feet this guy will be tough as shit, but he will have no ground game
