Marcus Davis, sometimes better known as "The Irish Hand Grenade," posted the reasoning behind his nickname today via Twitter.
While Davis is a self-described "UK Mutt," his mother is Irish and his father is Welsh/Scottish.
"the nick name I.H.G. was given to me back in 1993. I was a Pro Boxer at the time and fighting for a group with strong ties back to Ireland"
"1 of the older gentlemen kept calling me the IHG because he said I could have been the original IHG twin- who was a boxer in the 40'&50's"
"Knowing my families ties 2 Ireland(hence how I became involved with this group)the name stuck & that is how I was announced my Boxing career"
Throughout his boxing career, Davis racked up an impressive record of 17-1-2, with 12 of his wins coming by KO. He became a professional boxer at the age of 19 and retired from the sport at the end of 2000.
Davis is currently known best in the UFC for his boxing skills, holding an MMA record of 16-5. Commentators Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg have commented on his punching precision, body movement and foot work throughout his career - even saying that he has gotten better over the past year.
