Add two more names to the long list of injuries that have plagued the UFC roster so far this summer. Terry Etim and Alessio Sakara, both on the UFC 118 card have been dropped from their fights due to injuries sustained during training. Mmafighting.com reports that Etim suffered a broken rib, and Sakara sustained a knee injury.
Etim's opponent, Joe Lauzon (18-5, 5-2 UFC), will now face Gabe Ruediger. The former WEC lightweight champion, Ruediger (17-5) has won his last six fights en route to a second opportunity with the UFC. In his only fight with the promotion at UFC 63, Ruediger lost via second round TKO to Melvin Guillard. Both Lauzon and Ruediger were cast mates on season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter. It is expected that this fight will still air on the Spike TV prelims show.
Joe Vedepo has verbally agreed to fight Gerald Harris (17-2, 3-0 UFC), in place of Sakara. Vedepo (11-3, 0-2 UFC) last fought in the UFC in 2009, losing his only two fights to Rob Kimmons and the aforementioned Sakara. However, Vedepo is on a 4 fight win streak since his departure, and a win over the dynamic Harris could earn him a chance to stick around for awhile.
