After ravaging UFC 108 with injuries, the injury bug has moved on and found a new card to terrorize.
An injury has forced Antonio Rogerio Nogueira to withdraw from his co-headlining light heavyweight bout against Brandon Vera at UFC 109.
According to Sherdog.com, Nogueira suffered a fractured ankle and the UFC is currently working to find a replacement opponent for Vera on the same card.
Nogueira (18-3) is currently riding a six-fight winning streak, which includes wins over Todd Gouwenberg, Edwin Dewees, Moise Rimbon, Vladimir Matyushenko, Dion Staring and most recently Luiz Cane in his UFC debut at UFC 106 last month. His last loss occurred at Pride 33 in February 2007, where he suffered a 23-second knockout at the hands of Sokoudjou.
The Affliction, Sengoku and DEEP veteran has finished 11 of his 18 career wins and holds big notable wins over the likes of Kazushi Sakuraba, Dan Henderson and Alistair Overeem (x2).
Vera (11-4) is coming off of a unanimous decision loss against Randy Couture at UFC 105 on Nov. 14. The loss snapped a two-fight winning streak Vera had put together, which included previous wins over Krzysztof Soszynski and Michael Patt.
UFC 109 takes place on Feb. 6 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, NV and is headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between UFC Hall-of-Famers Randy Couture and Mark Coleman.
