Injury forces Tyson Griffin out of UFC 108 event
by Jacob Camargo on December 11, 2009

The injury hits keep on coming for UFC 108's main card.

Lightweight contender Tyson Griffin has been forced to withdraw from his featured 155-lbs. bout against Jim Miler at UFC 108 due to an undisclosed injury suffered in training.

The nature of Griffin's injury is not yet known. The UFC is expected to find a replacement opponent for Miller.

Add Griffin's name to a long list of main card fighters who have withdrawn from UFC 108 due to injury or illness. The list includes Carlos Condit, Gabriel Gonzaga, Brock Lesnar, Anderson Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Griffin's manager Tom Call confirmed the injury and does not expect Griffin to be out for long.

"Tyson sustained an injury that would prevent him from training for the fight in January," Call said to MMAjunkie.com. "We don't expect it to keep him out too long. However, he was unable to train and be properly prepared for January.

Griffin is not happy having to pull out of a fight for the first time in his entire career, but Call feels that it is the right decision.

"Tyson is particularly disappointed, as he has never had to pull out of a fight in his entire career." said call. "But we are very comfortable that this is the right decision."

Griffin (14-2) has gone 6-1 in his last seven fights, which includes two straight wins over Rafael dos Anjos and, most recently, over Hermes Franca at UFC 103 in September. His only defeat over the span came against Sean Sherk at UFC 90.

Griffin has compiled a 7-2 record in nine fights with the UFC, scoring notable wins over Clay Guida, Thiago Tavares, Gleison Tibau, and Marcus Aurelio. The Xtreme Couture product has also earned five "Fight of the Night" awards during his time with the organization.

Miller (15-2) is also streaking as he is 9-1 in his last 10 bouts; a span that includes back-to-back wins over TUF 6 winner Mac Danzig at UFC 100 and Steve Lopez at UFC 103. His lone blemish during that streak came against Gray Maynard at UFC 96.

UFC 108 takes place on Jan. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV, and the event's main card will be televised live on pay-per-view. The event will be headlined by a light-heavyweight bout between Rashad Evans and Thiago Silva.
