Ken Shamrock (28-15-2) and James Toney (0-1) have agreed to face off against each other in a mixed martial arts bout, according to BJPenn.com.
The bout is rumored to take place on September 23rd in El Paso, Texas, although neither one is finalized.
Shamrock is one of the men who helped establish mixed martial arts as a legitimate sport back in the early 1990's. He is arguably most famous for his two fights against Royce Gracie. The first one between the two took place during the semi-finals of the first ever UFC event back in 1993. Gracie was able to submit Shamrock in a battle of wrestling vs. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The two faced off again at UFC 5 in a superfight. The bout would be ruled a draw after 36 minutes of fighting and no definite ending due to the lack of judges.
His rumored opponent, James Toney, made his name in the boxing ring where he has established a 73-6 mark during his career. He made waves by transitioning over to mixed martial arts late last year to take on the legendary Randy Couture at UFC 118. Couture exploited Toney's lack of wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu and submitted the MMA newcomer in the first round.
The promotion for the bout is currently unknown.
