The UFC is making its return to Brazil since 1998, this time at Rio de Janeiro. UFC 134: Rio's main card on August 27th will be headlined by Anderson "The Spider" Silva making a ninth title defense against Yushin "Thunder" Okami according to UFC.com.
Silva is the current eight time defending middleweight champion and his challenger, Okami, is an old foe whom he has faced at the Rumble on the Rock promotion in early 2006.
Their last meeting ended with a disqualification loss for Silva as he knocked out Okami due to an illegal up kick. However this would be the last blemish on Silva's record as he would go on a 16 fight win streak en route to becoming the UFC's middleweight champion and regarded as one of the pound for pound best fighters in the world.
Okami won 12 of his last 15 fights, riding a three fight win streak with wins over UFC notables such as Nate Marquardt, Mark Munoz and the late Evan Tanner.
Another match-up planned for UFC 134 is the rematch between Forrest Griffin and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Griffin is currently on a two fight win streak with his last victory a unanimous decision over former middleweight champion, Rich Franklin, at UFC 126. Rua looks to rebound in his home country after a TKO lost to Jon Jones at UFC 128.
Other bouts include Ultimate Fighter season 9 winner, Ross "The Real Deal" Pearson versus undefeated Brazilian, Eddie Barboza.
Long time UFC veteran, Spencer "The King" Fisher is slated to take on Thiago Tavares.
Stanislav Nedkov, UFC new comer, will debut against the heavy handed Brazilian, Luiz "Banha" Cane.
TUF veteran, Tom "The Filthy Mauler" Lawlor will fight Brazilian striker, Maiquel Falcao.
Welterweights, Paulo Thiago to battle David "Daudi" Mitchell.
