It's official: Silva to fight Okami at UFC 134
by Hubert Lau on May 10, 2011

The UFC is making its return to Brazil since 1998, this time at Rio de Janeiro. UFC 134: Rio's  main card on August 27th will be headlined by Anderson "The Spider" Silva making a ninth title defense against Yushin "Thunder" Okami according to UFC.com.

Silva is the current eight time defending middleweight champion and his challenger, Okami, is an old foe whom he has faced at the Rumble on the Rock promotion in early 2006.

Their last meeting ended with a disqualification loss for Silva as he knocked out Okami due to an illegal up kick. However this would be the last blemish on Silva's record as he would go on a 16 fight win streak en route to becoming the UFC's middleweight champion and regarded as one of the pound for pound best fighters in the world.

Okami won 12 of his last 15 fights, riding a three fight win streak with wins over UFC notables such as Nate Marquardt, Mark Munoz and the late Evan Tanner.

Another match-up planned for UFC 134 is the rematch between Forrest Griffin and Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Griffin is currently on a two fight win streak with his last victory a unanimous decision over former middleweight champion, Rich Franklin, at UFC 126. Rua looks to rebound in his home country after a TKO lost to Jon Jones at UFC 128.

Other bouts include Ultimate Fighter season 9 winner, Ross "The Real Deal" Pearson versus undefeated Brazilian, Eddie Barboza.

Long time UFC veteran, Spencer "The King" Fisher is slated to take on Thiago Tavares.

Stanislav Nedkov, UFC new comer, will debut against the heavy handed Brazilian, Luiz "Banha" Cane.

TUF veteran, Tom "The Filthy Mauler" Lawlor will fight Brazilian striker, Maiquel Falcao.

Welterweights, Paulo Thiago to battle David "Daudi" Mitchell.

 |  (48) Comments flyangler: I gotta say this is a pretty weak card as of right now, add Royce and it is even worse. Cane, Tavares, Barbosa, Falcao, these are bottom barrel Brazilians as far as pay-per-view draw. JimLaheyTPS: Yeah this card is really weak. The 2 main fights are the only 2 that I want to see. They need to add at least one more good fight to this card. Maybe it will be Wandy vs someone if he beats Leben with little damage taken but I don't see either fighter winning with little damage. My guess for now, if they do add another big name, would be Machida. He has already said he wants to be on the card and took virtually no damage against Randy so he should have plenty of time to recover and get ready for any opponent. I have no idea who it might be thou as almost every top tier LHW has a fight already lined up. IwishIwasMMA: I got Yushin for this fight. I got Rua over Forrest. TheNamelessHero: I just wish we could see Wandy vs Vitor rematch in Brasil. GO HARD: ah i think hes fighting on the versus 3 fights. flyangler: It's looking a little better. Wonder what Brazilian will fight the Filthy Mauler? D_V: I like this Hubert. I have to say, he's the only non-cat Hubert I've come across in any way in my life. that or he's a smart kitty. illegalpoke: Spider-man looks good in that picture. Like he can kick anyone's a.s there. :) Okami/Silva scares me a little. But what A.S. fight doesn't? D_V: silva should win easily. We'll see though. Okami is a good fighter but he's too plodding and slow to consistently get a hold of Silva. I can see Silva wrecking him standing. Mtx: I really need to get my stuff planned out to be there and send y'all picks from this awesome event Hizoka: the thing is the only MW out there right now with the tools to beat Silva is Okami... Wandering_Minstrel: If nothing, I'm consistent... picking Okami.
