JZ Cavalcante vs. Lyle Beerbohm late addition to Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Henderson"
by Jacob Camargo on July 07, 2011

As Strikeforce and M-1 Global's "Fedor vs. Henderson" event quickly approaches, the fight card continues to get more and more stacked as each day passes. Wednesday the promotion announced a lightweight bout between JZ Cavalcante and Lyle Beerbohm, which will likely take place on the preliminary portion of the July 30 card.

Cavalcante (15-4-1) is winless in his first two fights with Strikeforce. First in his debut with the promotion he suffered a controversial unanimous decision loss to Josh Thomson at Strikeforce: "Diaz vs. Noons 2" last October. Then, his sophomore effort with the promotion against Justin Wilcox was rule a "no decision" due to an accidental eye poke at last month's Strikeforce: "Overeem vs. Werdum."

The once feared Cavalcante has only won once in the past three years and has gone through periods of inactivity due to a string of injuries. Prior to the dismal stretch, he was considered one of the world's top lightweights with a very impressive 14 fight unbeaten streak from Sept. 2004 to March 2008. The Brazilian has notched wins over the likes of Bart Palaszewski, Michihiro Omigawa, Hiroyuki Takaya, Rani Yahya, Caol Uno, Nam Phan and Vitor Ribeiro.

Beerbohm (15-2) has suffered back-to-back losses against Pat Healy and most recently against top-ten ranked Shinya Aoki at Strikeforce: "Diaz vs. Daley" in April.

"Fancy Pants" was previously tabbed as one of the sport's brightest lightweight prospects, winning the first 15 fights of his career, with finishes coming in 13 of those wins against notables such as Rafaello Oliveira, Vitor Ribeiro and Duane Ludwig.

The Showtime televised Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Henderson" event, which hails from the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, is headlined by a heavyweight bout between MMA legends Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson.

Other explosive match ups set for the main card include Strikeforce women's welterweight champion Marloes Coenen facing top contender Miesha Tate, a pivotal welterweight bout between Paul Daley and Tyron Woodley with the winner getting a shot at Strikeforce's vacant welterweight strap as well as a intriguing middleweight tilt between Tim Kennedy and Robbie Lawler.
