After losing his first two fights in the UFC as a welterweight, Minnesota Martial Arts Academy's Jacob Volkmann will make the plunge down to the lightweight division to face UFC sophomore Ronnys Torres at UFC Fight Night 21 on March 31 set for the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Volkmann first revealed the bout on his official Twitter account.

"I will be fighting UFN 21 in North Carolina against Ronys Torres at 155 pounds on March 31st," said Volkmann. "Hopefully it will make Spike."

Volkmann (9-2) is coming off a first round submission (guillotine choke) loss against Martin Kampmann at UFC 108 last month. The loss was his second straight, with his previous loss coming in his UFC debut against Paulo Thiago at UFC 106 in November.

Prior to joining the UFC, Volkmann had won the first nine bouts of his career, picking up wins in other notable promotions such as Xtreme Fighting Organization, Max Fights, Bellator Fighting Championships and Victory Fighting Championship. He has finished seven of his nine career wins and holds notable career wins over the likes of Nathan Oliver, Travis McCullough, Bobby Voelker and Kevin Knabjian.

Torres (14-2) most recently suffered a loss in his UFC debut against Melvin Guillard at UFC 109 on February 6. It was the first fight for Torres since September 2008, as he was sidelined all of 2009 due to an array of injuries. Prior to the loss against Guillard, he had won eight-straight fights.

The Nova Uniao product has competed for other notable promotions during his three-year career such as Shooto and Jungle Fight. Torres has scored stoppages in 12 of his 14 career wins and holds a noteworthy career win over Pride veteran Luiz Azeredo.

The Spike TV televised UFC Fight Night 21 event is the third UFC event in the month of March, and will also serve as a lead-in for the debut episode of "The Ultimate Fighter" 11.

The event is headlined by a very interesting lightweight match up between former title contender Kenny Florian and former Pride champion Takanori Gomi. In addition, TUF 10 winner Roy Nelson will take on rising prospect Stefan Struve in a heavyweight bout set as the night's co-featured bout.
