Jake Ellenberger vs. John Howard set for UFC on Versus 2
by Jacob Camargo on April 21, 2010

Welterweights Jake Ellenberger and John Howard have verbally agreed to a bout that will likely take place on the televised portion of the UFC on Versus 2 card in August. News of the bout was first reported by MMADiehards.com.

Ellenberger (22-5) was originally slated to face Ben Saunders at UFC 111 on March 27 but was pulled from the card when Saunders stepped in to fight Jon Fitch, who was left opponent-less after Thiago Alves failed to gain medical clearance to fight.

Ellenberger is 5-1 in his last six bouts, most recently defeating Mike Pyle at UFC 108 in January. His lone loss over that span came in his previous bout, as he suffered a split decision loss to Carlos Condit in his Octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 19 in September.

Ellenberger is a five year veteran of the sport, fighting for other notable promotions such as Ring of Fire, International Fighting Championship, SportFight, Bodog Fight, IFL, King of the Cage and M-1. He has finished 19 of his 22 career wins including 14 by TKO or KO and holds notable wins over Brendan Seguin, Marcelo Alfaya, Zach Light, Pat Healy and Jose Landi-Jons.

Howard (14-4) is coming off of a first round knockout win over Daniel Roberts at UFC on Versus 1 on March 21, which earned him a "Knockout of the Night" bonus netting him an extra $50,000. The win moved Howard to a perfect 4-0 with the UFC, which includes wins in his first three UFC bouts against Chris Wilson, Tamdan McCrory and Dennis Hallman.

Prior to joining the UFC, Howard fought mostly on the East Coast for notable promotions such as the IFL, Combat Zone, World Fighting League, Ring of Combat and Cage Fury Fighting Championships. He has scored stoppages in 10 of his 14 career wins and holds notable wins during his five-year career over the likes of Jason Dublin (x2) and Charlie Brenneman.

UFC on Versus 2 will likely take place on August 1 at the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah and it will be the promotion's first ever event in Utah.

August is shaping up to be a busy month for the UFC, as they have three events in the works. Other rumored UFC events for August include UFC 117 on August 7 in Oakland, and UFC 118 on August 28 in Boston.
