Jake Shields vs. Jake Ellenberger targeted for a UFC event in the fall
by Hubert Lau on June 27, 2011

Jake Shields' next fight will likely be Jake Ellenberger at a fall UFC event according to bloodyelbow.com.

Shields (26-5-1) will look to rebound from his unanimous decision loss in his title bout against George St. Pierre. Prior to that loss, Shields was on a 15 fight win streak that also saw the Cesar Gracie product become the middleweight champion in Strikeforce.

Ellenberger (25-5) is fresh off of a knockout victory over Sean Pierson and have shown to be one of the UFC's brightest prospects in the welterweight division, currently on a four fight win streak.

Both fighters have agreed to fight each other although the UFC have yet to declare the bout official. It remains to be seen which event will host the Shields vs. Ellenberger bout but UFC 138 is nearly in Shields' backyard at San Jose, California which will be a logical choice.

JimLaheyTPS: I thought the UFC was targeting a match between Shields and Penn. Wonder where that leaves BJ. snuff: I don't like the two "rising" prospects of the ww division. Story and Ellenburger are d-bags. At least one of them lost now. One more to go! :D Also.. WAR PENN! GO HARD: i think ellengberger can win this... but i will roll witht he homie shields. and i like both story and ellenberger. sure like them better than gsp, fitch and kos. Wandering_Minstrel: IMO this is Shields' fight to lose, but Ellenburger has the tools to win.
