When Antonio Rogerio Nogueira's hand was raised at the end of his UFC 114 fight, everyone was surprised. But opponent Jason Brilz has admitted that he is okay with the judges decision.
Brilz spoke with Shambala Sports Radio about his split decision loss to Nogueira, stating that even though the fight was close, he isn't looking to step into the Octagon again against the same opponent.
"I don't like rematches," Brilz said. "I'll face whoever Joe Silva would like me to face, and I'm not going to duck anyone. However I'm not going to seek the rematch with Nogueira. He beat me. The judges call was the correct one."
While many fans - even those that were predisposed to cheering for Nogueira - do not agree with him, Brilz will be looking to face a new adversary the next time he steps in the cage. He said that he does not harbor bad feelings about the decision, and will be looking to improve his game.
Brilz sunk in a few submissions on Nogueira, but could not finish the fight in that fashion. He admitted that Nogueira's sweeps were very good and hard to avoid
Regardless, their close, three-round battle earned them both the event's Fight of the Night bonuses.
Brilz was a late replacement for Forrest Griffin when the former light-heavyweight champion was forced to pull out with a shoulder injury in early May. Following UFC 114, Brilz now sports a record of 18-3-1.
