Jeff Curran talks UFC return: "I finally fought my way back, and it's either put up or shut up"
by Hubert Lau on October 22, 2011

Jeff Curran is eager to prove himself in his UFC return at UFC 137 next weekend on October 29 according to mmafighting.com.

For the 34 year old MMA veteran who has fought in nearly 50 fights, it was a long road back to the Octagon. Curran first debuted with the UFC back at UFC 46 when he took a fight against Matt Serra on short notice, losing via unanimous decision.

After his release Curran had a great run in the local circuits going 14-1, his sole loss came from Hatsu Hioki at Pride Bushido 12. Curran then made his way onto the WEC in late 2007, where he challenged Urijah Faber for his WEC featherweight title in just his second bout with the promotion. However Curran would lose that bout after Faber sunk in a guillotine choke in the second round, Curran would go 1-4 with the WEC.

"Physically, I was prepared as ever for all my fights in the WEC. For Urijah, I just got caught. After that, it was a spiral in my mental focus. I don't know what made them turn the table and give me another opportunity. But at this point, it doesn't really matter. I've got to get out there and prove myself," Curran said

Most recently Curran sports a 4-1 record over five fights, last defeating Billy Vaughan via unanimous decision at an Xxtreme Fighting Organization event back in May.

"I thought I needed to finish Billy Vaughan to get back in the UFC, but I think that was enough for them to say, 'Jeff looked good, he was back meaning business'...'The pressure.' I'm not intimidated by it. I've been in all the big shows. But what it all encompasses is that I finally fought my way back, and it's either put up or shut up. Embarrass myself or get out there and do my thing," Curran said.

Curran is set to fight Scott Jorgensen in a bantamweight bout at UFC 137's main card. Jorgensen is the one time WEC bantamweight title challenger and is looking to build upon his knockout victory over Ken Stone at The Ultimate Fighter 13 finale.
