Jeff Curran vs. Takeya Mizugaki officially confirmed for WEC 42
by Jacob Camargo on June 05, 2009

A previously reported bantamweight bout between Jeff Curran and Takeya Mizugaki for WEC 42 has now been officially added to the fight card by the promotion.

The WEC recently announced WEC 42, which will take place at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be headlined by a bantamweight title bout between current champion Miguel Torres and top contender Brian Bowles. The Curran-Mizugaki bout will serve as the co-featured bout of the evening.

Mizugaki is coming off a hard fought decision loss to bantamweight champion Miguel Torres at WEC 40 in April. Despite losing, Mizugaki put on a gutsy performance in dragging the champ, Torres, all five rounds in a bout that has to be considered a "Fight of the Year" candidate. Prior to WEC 40, the longtime Shooto and GCM veteran, Mizugaki, was riding a five-fight win streak with his last win coming this past December against Masahiro Oishi.

Jeff Curran is also looking to rebound off a loss at WEC 40 as he was defeated by Joseph Benavidez in his bantamweight debut. The WEC 40 loss was Curran's third straight, with previous losses to featherweights Urijah Faber at WEC 31 and Mike Brown at WEC 34. He hasn't won a fight since WEC 29 in August 2007, where he defeated Stephen Ledbetter. The well traveled Curran has been competing professionally since 1998 and he has fought for many promotions such as the UFC, IFL, Pride, SuperBrawl and KOTC. He holds notable wins over Jason Dent, Bao Quach, Wagnney Fabiano and Rafael Assuncao.
