Tito Ortiz did not physically hurt girlfriend Jenna Jameson. But reports say that Jameson is addicted to OxyContin and had a relapse the morning of the alleged attack.
"He didn't beat me," Jameson told KCAL-TV News. "We had an argument, and it escalated, and things got out of control."
Police arrested Ortiz because of visible marks on Jameson. These visible marks, police reports said, were a scratch on her elbow, which she later covered with a brace not long after Ortiz was arrested by police.
"Tito Ortiz never laid a hand on Jenna, never," Chip Matthews, Ortiz's lawyer, told reporters. "Jenna has been fighting a battle with OxyContin addiction for the past year. For Tito and her family this has been an uphill battle. Tito was trying to help her, she has threatened suicide before. Tito has done everything in his power to protect her privacy and the privacy of their children."
"It means the world to me, my friends and family for their support," Ortiz told reporters. "My parents have been through an addiction and I see it in the mirror again. I am not going to let my family go through that. I speak from my heart. I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be okay."
According to MMAJunkie, Jameson filed a temporary restraining order, although they spoke yesterday. Jameson took her cue from thoughts of singer Rihanna, who was beaten by boyfriend Chris Brown last year.
"I'm just going to work on my relationship with him, and hope it works out," she said. Jameson later told TMZ reporters that she hopes for a reconciliation with Ortiz after the temporary restraining order runs its course.
Jameson's family, aware of her past problems with OxyContin, has since sided with Ortiz after learning that she had taken the drug, said Matthews. Yesterday morning, Ortiz found the drugs and confronted Jameson about them, who was having an "emotional breakdown." It was Jameson's emotional breakdown that triggered her father to call 911 for her safety, unaware of what was happening.
Ortiz was never formally charged of a crime and was released on $25,000 bail yesterday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
