Jens Pulver: "It's hard to go out like this."
by Gavin Vincent on March 12, 2010

"The arm is ok. It popped a couple times but it was fast man. He snapped that thing on quick. That's what I get for going for that third kick and missing. I don't know what happened after that. We kinda rolled around, and I remember thinking to myself, 'Damn man, I got to get this grappling down at some point.' It was just one of those things. It jacked it up pretty good and I was stuck. I can't even begin to explain the road I'm sitting on. It's kind of bitter sweet. I love this sport and it's tough man. It's hard to go out like this (tears up). I'm just a proud old man. I'm a proud papa I guess. I'm the Godfather of this stuff, and you know, it's at a good place and a good way to go. To see these guys get the opportunity, and to see the 135-ers coming up the way that they are, to see the fans get behind it, enjoy it, and embrace it, means a lot to me. When we started this they took a risk in the 155-pound division and gave it a shot. TV came along and it kept growing. WEC is the place. People always ask me, 'When are you going back to the UFC?'. I am. I'm in the WEC. It's the same. This is the home for the little guys. As long as they keep the 135 and 145 that's where I want to be. That's the place I want to push, and those are the guys I want to get behind. I enjoy watching every single one of them fight."

Jens Pulver discusses his status after dropping his fifth consecutive WEC fight at WEC 47 to Javier Vazquez. Although "Lil Evil" didn't get to land his patented big left hand, we did see a little more patience from the 35-year-old legend.

Pulver came out and showing decent stand-up, and throwing multiple leg kicks. But, a botched third leg kick proved to be the beginning of the end, as Vazquez capitalized on the miss and took Pulver to the ground eventually slapping on a fight-ending armbar.

It is unclear whether or not Pulver plans to retire, but regardless of his decision, the former UFC light-heavyweight champions' legacy in the sport is secure.

The guy is a legend and not only that, but he's a wonderful human being. He came from nothing (and an abusive household) to become a very successful MMA fighter. He's one of the most fan-friendly and approachable fighters out there. He helped start a damned division in the UFC for cryin' out loud. I think there will be something in store for Jens "Lil Evil" Pulver in the MMA World without having to glove up for war. EverlastingSpringtime: Jens was always an exciting fighter to watch, a fighter that always went for it. He should be proud of what he has acheived in his career as a fighter. He has shown how much it means to him, but i think its a good call to walk away now. Still remember the knockout of John Lewis way back at UFC 28, left hook ko in about ten seconds of the fight starting, Wishing him all the best in the future GO HARD: jens always does the Mean Face in pics. The Hitman: it is tough to watch him go out. im happy he did. no need to try to come back. legendary career, and a TRUE MMA HOFer The Hitman: i hate hearing the goodbye speeches that you know really come from the guys heart. he loves the sport, sad thing is he cant compete anymore. he needs to hang it up for good
