Jens Pulver likely to face Javier Vazquez at WEC 47
by Jacob Camargo on December 31, 2009

Former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver is in talks to make his long-awaited return against Javier Vazquez at WEC 47 on March 6 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, according to MMAjunkie.com.

The bout between Pulver and Vazquez will be featured on the WEC 47 televised main card.

Pulver (22-12-1) has put together a dismal 1-4 record with the WEC since moving over to the promotion from the UFC's lightweight division. He has lost four straight WEC fights, dropping two fights against former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber, as well as to UFC veteran Leonard Garcia and rising contender Josh Grispi.

Pulver's lone WEC win came in his debut with the promotion against Cub Swanson at WEC 31 in Dec. 2007. The 10-year veteran of the sport has had previous stints with Shooto, Extreme Challenge, HOOKnSHOOT and Pride. However, it is his long tenure with the UFC that made him a household name. He holds a 6-2-1 UFC record, scoring big wins over Dennis Hallman, Caol Uno, John Lewis and B.J. Penn.

"Little Evil" also holds other impressive notable career wins over the likes of Joe Stevenson, Rob Emerson and Cole Escovedo.

Vazquez (13-4) has lost two straight fights, suffering close split-decision losses in his first two WEC bouts against L.C. Davis and, most recently, Deividas Taurosevicius at WEC 43 in October. Prior to the losses, he was on a four-fight winning streak, which included two wins under the now-defunct Pro Elite banner.

The King of the Cage and Shooto veteran has finished nine of his 13 career wins, including eight coming by submission. He has notched up notable career wins during his 11-year career over fighters such as David Gardner, Rumina Sato, Rob Emerson and JC Pennington.

The Versus-televised WEC 47 event will be headlined by a WEC bantamweight title bout between current champ Brian Bowles and challenger, Dominick Cruz. A very interesting bantamweight bout between Miguel Torres and Joseph Benavidez is also being discussed for the event.
