Jens Pulver returns to cage on August 14 in mixed MMA/Boxing event
by Jason Benfari on June 18, 2010

The demise of Jens Pulver's fighting career would seem to have been greatly exaggerated. The former UFC lightweight champion announced today via twitter that he would return to the cage on August 14 for a fight set to take place in San Diego.

"Fights been confirmed for Aug 14th in san diego,"  Pulver wrote. "Hope to see you guys there! let me know if you can make it."

The card is expected to be a mix of both boxing and MMA and will also feature Murilo Bustamante, Thales Leites, Alan Goes, Pedro Rizzo, Jens Pulver and Jason Lambert.

Pulver, 35, was once considered among the world's best lightweights but has struggled recently, suffering through a dismal 0-5 stretch while competing at featherweight for the WEC. The career downturn has caused many to call for his retirement, but Pulver seems content on going out on his own terms.

An opponent for the match up has yet to be confirmed.

If I read about this fight ending with him in tears and making another farewell speech, I'm gonna laugh my ass off. No disrespect, but you can only be a Micheal Jordan or Brett Favre if you continue to win when you come back from retirement again, and again. throwingshoes: pulver is the man and i will always cheer for him. "push yer t!tties out!" -pulver, TUF coach.
