UFC standout Jim Miller will face former WEC champion Ben Henderson at "UFC on Versus 5" on Aug. 14. The news was first reported by myjerseycentral.com and later confirmed by sources close to the event.
Miller (20-2) is riding a seven fight winning streak since a loss to top lightweight contender Gray Maynard back in 2009, and is coming off of a dominant performance in a TKO win over Kamal Shalorus at UFC 128 in March.
His only other career loss came at the hands of current UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar, and he holds notable UFC victories over Matt Wiman, Mac Danzig, Mark Bocek, Gleison Tibau and rising prospect Charles Oliveira.
Henderson (13-2) made a successful UFC debut against highly regarded Canadian fighter Mark Bocek after making a name for himself as a standout and eventual champion in the WEC's lightweight division. He was famously dethroned by Anthony Pettis at WEC 53 back in December in part due to the now infamous "kick off of the cage."
Henderson holds notable victories over the likes of Anthony Njokuani, Shane Roller, Donald Cerrone, and Jamie Varner.
The fight is likely to provide some clarity in what has become a murky UFC lightweight picture. The division has faced a logjam at the top with a recent draw in a title fight involving Frankie Edgar and Grey Maynard, and their subsequent injuries which have pushed the fight back indefinitely.
Add the influx of WEC talent like Henderson, Cerrone and Pettis, to the already staked division featuring stars like Miller, Clay Guida, Denis Siver, George Sotiropoulos and Melvin Guillard among many others, and you've got a division in real need of a pecking order.
UFC on Versus 5 will take place on Aug. 14 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wis. and will also likely feature Cole Miller vs. T.J. O'Brien, Duane Ludwig vs. Amir Sadollah, and Stephan Bonnar vs. Karlos Vemola.
