A lightweight bout between Jim Miller and Gleison Tibau that was originally rumored to happen at UFC on Versus 2 on Aug. 1 in Salt Lake City, Utah is now slated to take place on the televised main card portion of UFC Fight Night 22 in September, according to a report from MMAWeekly.com.
Its no surprise the bout was moved to a new card because the match up between Miller and Tibau is one that is certainly worthy of a televised slot. Though, if it would have remained on the UFC on Versus 2 card it would have been relegated to the un-aired preliminary portion of the card, with the UFC on Versus 2 main card already set.
Miller (17-2) has won four straight fights, most recently scoring a unanimous decision over Mark Bocek at UFC 111 in March. Prior to the wins, he suffered his first UFC loss against Gray Maynard at UFC 96 in March.
Miller sports a near perfect 6-1 UFC record, with other Octagon wins coming over Mac Danzig, Steve Lopez, Duane Ludwig, David Baron and Matt Wiman. Prior to entering the UFC, Miller fought mostly on the east coast for notable promotions like IFL, Reality Fighting, Ring of Combat and Cage Fury Fighting Championships.
Tibau (20-6) is 4-1 in his last five bouts, which includes a current two-fight winning streak. He most recently notched up a very impressive first-round TKO win over Caol Uno at UFC Fight Night 21 in March.
Tibau has put together a 7-4 record in 11 fights with the UFC, scoring other notable Octagon wins over Josh Neer, Jason Dent, Terry Etim, Rich Clementi and Jeremy Stephens. The 11-year veteran of the sport has fought for other notable promotions throughout his career such as Bitetti Combat, Storm Samurai and DEEP.
The as-of-yet unannounced UFC Fight Night 22 event is expected to take place on September 15, with a exact location and venue yet to be determined, however, recent rumors have the event targeted for an East Coast market. The event will likely serve as the lead-in for Spike TV's debut episode of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) season 12.
TUF 12 is set to begin taping in June and will be anchored by opposing coaches Georges St-Pierre, and polarizing top contender Josh Koscheck.
