UFC welterweight Joe Lauzon's desire and dream to fight in his hometown will soon be fulfilled, as he will face British fighter Terry Etim on the televised main card portion of the UFC 118 card. The fight takes place on August 28 in Boston, Massachusetts and was first reported by Fighter's Only.
Lauzon (18-5) is coming off of a loss against Sam Stout at UFC 108 in January in a bout that earned both men "Fight of the Night" for their exciting lightweight war. It was his first fight since February 2009, as he was sidelined with a ACL injury and he then underwent major knee surgery for the injury in March.
The Ultimate Fighter 5 cast member sports a 5-2 overall UFC record, with wins inside the Octagon over Brandon Melendez, Jason Reinhardt, Jeremy Stephens and Kyle Bradley as well as a big upset win over Jens Pulver in his UFC debut. His only other UFC loss came against fellow Massachusetts' fighter Kenny Florian at UFC Fight Night 13 in April 2008.
Etim (14-3) most recently suffered a second round submission loss to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 112 last month. Prior to the loss, he won four straight bouts, which included wins over Sam Stout, Brian Cobb, Justin Buchholz and Shannon Gugerty. Etim now sports a 5-3 UFC record, with a win coming over Matt Grice in his Octagon debut, while suffering other Octagon losses to Gleison Tibau and Rich Clementi.
The Cage Fighting Championships and Cage Gladiators veteran has finished all but one of his 14 career wins including 11 wins coming by submission. He holds other notable career wins over Greg Loughran and Sami Berik.
Though not officially announced, UFC 118 is expected to be headlined by a UFC lightweight title rematch between champion Frankie Edgar and former longtime title-holder, B.J. Penn. In the co-main event, lightweight contenders Kenny Florian and Gray Maynard will meet with a title shot on the line.
