Joe Rogan on Cain Velasquez: "He is frighteningly talented and frighteningly dedicated."
by Natalia Baage on April 16, 2010

"We gotta see what happens with Cain Velasquez. Cain Velasquez is a motherfucker!  That guy is frighteningly talented and frighteningly dedicated. Incredible technique, too, everything he does. His punches, his take downs, his kicks. Everything is perfect technique. There's no fluff in his technique, there's no fat. There's no excess movement. The way he throws leg kicks - God damn beautiful. Just perfect technique. When he throws punches - same thing. Everything is perfect technique. His endurance is second to none. I'm super, super impressed with Cain Velasquez. I think he's just amazing."  - Joe Rogan (via video blog)

With eight fights under his belt, Cain Velasquez (8-0) has done nothing but impress. Only one of his fights has gone the distance; the rest have ended via (T)KO.

Velasquez's wrestling and kickboxing have garnered him much attention. Fans are calling for him to get the next title shot against the winner of Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin, who will fight at UFC 116 on July 3. However, there is a stronger likelihood that Velasquez will face the equally impressive Junior dos Santos, with the winner to get the next title shot.

The American Kickboxing Academy product has earned two Knockout of the Night honors since he began fighting with the UFC in April 2008, one of which was in his most recent fight against Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110. Many fans were town between the two fighters, who spent half of the first round feeling each other out on their feet. Velasquez landed short combinations and crisp leg kicks while Nogueira countered with his own strikes. But Velasquez saw an opportunity, unleashed a nasty left-right-left combination that dropped Nogueira to the mat. Velasquez then proceeded to follow him down and don some ground-and-pound before Herb Dean stopped the fight. Velasquez walked away with a first-round KO.

Velasquez's dream to become the heavyweight champion is quickly becoming a tangible reality. His potential fight against dos Santos moves him one step closer - with one step left to go - from the championship belt.

 |  (24) Comments Wandering_Minstrel: Cain vs JDS... good fight. I like both guys a lot, but I see Cain walking away the victor in this one. D_V: Cain will dispose of JDS with almost no effort. Cain's the man. He's the real champ. He's going to kill everyone. IwishIwasMMA: OMG. I hope they dont put JDS against him.. Put JDS against Mir. Its fair.. Let Cain stay as the "next in line" and give JDS Mir. That way Mir has to climb back to contender status against a guy who is begging for it. You cannot get a more perfect match up then that. Plus, Cain has already done enough to get that title shot after Carwin. I believe it is also time for Mir to put up, or SHUT THE FUCK UP. That is my take on things. D_V: Mir should fight Nog and JDS should fight someone like Kongo, that he'll easily beat. They shouldn't fuck the contenders up. both deserve title shots. Cain and JDS. It's a waste to fight them off right now and lose a possible title shot. Mir would get killed by either JDS or Cain and so we'd all love to see that but Mir is talking about how he needs a tune up because he's a pussy so he'll get that. Another loss and that's what it would be, would kill his career at this point. The Hitman: Cain is a beast, but I don't think he is quite there yet. I don't think he would fair well against either Carwin or Lesnar. I think he needs to put on more muscle weight first or thoughs 2 monsters may be able to toss him around a bit. But I still don't feel that I've see enough of Cain yet. 1 more contender fight and he is definitly deserve his title shot. And that will help show us just how much Can brings to the table. Hopefully against JDS.
