Forget Fedor Emelainenko. UFC color commentator Joe Rogan is more anxious to capture a different heavyweight fighter from Strikeforce.
"Alistair Overeem," Rogan told a crowd at a UFC 114 Q&A conference. "Especially after he just demolished Brett Rogers. I think he's the most dangerous striker in the heavyweight division. He's got a lot of experience in K-1, knocked out Badr Hari, defeated multiple-time champion Peter Aerts. He's one of the best guys at heavyweight that isn't fighting in the UFC. I would love, love, love to see that guy over."
Overeem has long been the Strikeforce heavyweight champion. After coming under heavy scrutiny for not defending his belt for so long, Overeem and the organization stated that it was because there was no one for him to face. Since capturing the belt in November 2007, Overeem's only title defense came in May 2010. During the time in between, he fought in seven other fights in the Netherlands and Japan.
Currently, Overeem's only viable threats in Strikeforce's heavyweight division are Emelianenko and Fabricio Werdum, who is a former UFC fighter). However, if he moved to the UFC as per Rogan's suggestion, he would be moving into arguably the most stacked division in mixed martial arts. Overeem would have the opportunity to test himself against 265-ers like Brock Lesnar, Shane Carwin, Cain Velasquez, Frank Mir, Junior dos Santos and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
Rogan also has his eye on another Strikeforce champion, who sits in the 170-pound division.
"I would love to see Nick Diaz come back over here," Rogan said. "I think Nick Diaz is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. I, personally, think he's top 10 in the world. He's outstanding, he's one of the best."
Diaz, who is currently on a seven-fight wining streak, impressed many with his January win over Marius Zaromskis to capture the vacant welterweight title.
He was first signed to the UFC back in 2003, but was released in 2006 following three consecutive losses. A few months later, he was called back, and fought twice more in the Octagon before leaving the organization. The UFC's welterweight division also has many title contenders or near-title contenders that could be good match ups for Diaz such as champion Georges St. Pierre, Josh Koscheck or Jon Fitch.
