Ultimate Fighter season two winner, Joe Stevenson, has been released by the UFC according to mmaweekly.com.
Stevenson (31-14) was on the heels of four straight losses upon his release from the UFC this past Thursday. Stevenson began his UFC career with much success. After winning the Ultimate Fighter at welterweight, Stevenson dropped to lightweight and strung four victories together to earn him a title shot against BJ Penn in 2008 for the UFC's lightweight title.
Despite a hard fought bout, Penn ultimately won via rear naked choke in the second round. In his subsequent fights, Stevenson continued to fight against the UFC's top tier lightweights, going 3-2 in that span. For Stevenson, more challenging bouts followed.
His recent run ended in a 0-4 which included a debut in the featherweight division against Javier Vazquez at UFC on Versus 4. He was defeated in that bout via unanimous decision and proved to be his last bout in the UFC.
Stevenson's UFC record is 8-8 but as he exits, many options are available. Bellator or the newly reemerged ProElite could be the home for Stevenson in the near future.
