Joe Stevenson vs. George Sotiropoulos likely for UFC 110
by Jacob Camargo on November 29, 2009

A lightweight bout between TUF 2 winner Joe Stevenson and Aussie native George Sotiropoulos is in the works for UFC 110 on Feb. 21 at the Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia.

Stevenson (31-10) has experienced a resurgence since joining Team Jackson in Albuquerque, New Mexico, winning back-to-back fights against TUF 5 winner Nate Diaz and most recently Spencer Fisher at UFC 104 last month. Prior to the wins, he lost two straight bouts against Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez.

Stevenson has put together an 8-4 record over four years with the UFC, scoring other notable Octagon victories over the likes of Yves Edwards, Melvin Guillard, Kurt Pellegrino and Gleison Tibau. During his 10-year career, he has fought for other notable promotions such as King of the Cage, Ring of Fire and Gladiator Challenge. Stevenson holds other notable career wins over Toby Imada, Edwin Dewees, Jeremy Jackson and Thomas Denny.

Sotiropoulos (11-2) will be fighting in front of his hometown crowd for the first time as a UFC fighter. He started his career with the UFC as a cast member on the sixth season of Spike TV's The Ultimate Fighter. Sotiropoulos has won his last five bouts, which includes wins in his first four UFC contests over Billy Miles, Roman Mitichyan and George Roop as well as his most recent victory over Jason Dent at UFC 106 on Nov. 21.

The Xtreme Fighting Championships and Spirit MC veteran hasn't been defeated since Oct. 2006, where he suffered a disqualification loss against current Dream lightweight champion Shinya Aoki at a Shooto event. He has finished eight of his 11 career wins including seven coming by submission and holds a notable win during his five-year career over EliteXC veteran Kyle Noke.

UFC 110 will likely feature a heavyweight bout between contenders Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez. In addition, a very interesting middleweight bout between the UK's Michael Bisping and former Pride superstar Wanderlei Silva will also be featured on the card.
