A very interesting lightweight bout between division contenders Joe Stevenson and Spencer Fisher is in the works for UFC 104, which will take place on October 24 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
The bout will likely end up on the televised main card. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com and later confirmed by Fiveknuckles.com from sources close to the event.
Stevenson (30-10) is coming off a much needed win over Nate Diaz at TUF 9 finale in June; the bout earned the men co-Fight of the night honors. Prior to the win, he had lost two straight against Kenny Florian and Diego Sanchez repspectively. TUF 2 welterweight winner, Stevenson, now sports a 7-4 record in the UFC, with notable wins over Kurt Pellegrino, Yves Edwards and Gleison Tibau. During his 10-year career, the longtime KOTC veteran holds other notable wins in his career over Toby Imada, Thomas Denny, Thomas Schulte and Edwin Dewees.
Fisher (23-4) has won his last three straight bouts inside the octagon against Jeremy Stephens, Shannon Gugerty and most recently Caol Uno at UFC 99 in June. He has also had a long tenure with the UFC putting together an 8-3 mark in 11 fights with the promotion with notalble wins coming over Sam Stout, Dan Lauzon, Matt Wiman and Thiago Alves. Nineteen of his 23 career wins have been via stoppage, including 11 by TKO or KO and 8 by submission.
UFC 104 is headlined by a light-heavyweight title bout between current champ Lyoto Machida and challenger, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua. Heavyweight prospects Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez will also duke it out on the card in a bout that holds possible title implications.
