A welterweight bout between undefeated prospect Johny Hendricks and UFC rookie Ricardo Funch is set for the preliminary portion of the UFC 107 event in Dec. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
Hendricks is coming off of a 29 second victory over TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah in his Octagon debut at August's UFC 101. Prior to joining the UFC, he went 2-0 in the other ZUFFA owned promotion, WEC, scoring wins over Justin Haskins and Alex Serdyukov. The former two-time Division I collegiate wrestling champion is off to a 6-0 start to his MMA career, with five of those wins being by stoppage including four by TKO or KO.
Funch will be debuting in the Octagon with an undefeated MMA record of 7-0 since turning pro in Sept. 2006. He most recently defeated Denis Grachev at a Cage Fight MMA event in Aug. 2008.
The Team Link fighter is known to be well-versed in jiu-jitsu, however, he has finished four of his seven career wins by TKO or KO. The Brazilian, Funch, does own a notable career win over well known veteran Anthony Waldburger at a Xtreme Fighting Championships event in June 2008.
UFC 107 takes place on Dec. 12 from the FedExForum in Memphis, TN. The event will be headlined by a UFC lightweight title bout between current champ B.J. Penn and top contender Diego Sanchez.
