A welterweight bout between T.J. Grant and Johny Hendricks has been verbally agreed upon for the steadily growing UFC 113 event in May. News of the bout was first reported by TopMMANews.com.
The as-of-yet unannounced UFC 113 event is expected to take place on May 1 at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and will likely be headlined by a light-heavyweight title rematch between champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shogun" Rua.
Hendricks has opened his UFC career with back-to-back wins over TUF 7 winner Amir Sadollah and most recently scored a hard fought unanimous decision win over newcomer Ricardo Funch at UFC 107 last month.
Prior to joining the UFC, Hendricks went 2-0 with the organization's sister promotion, the WEC, picking up wins in the promotion's now-defunct welterweight division against Justin Haskins and Alex Serdyukov. The former two-time Division I collegiate wrestling champion has put together a 7-0 MMA record since turning pro in September 2007, with five of those wins being by stoppage including four by TKO or KO.
Grant (15-3) is 6-1 in his last seven bouts, most recently defeating Kevin Burns also at UFC 107: "Penn vs. Sanchez" on Dec. 12. His first round TKO win over Burns won him "Knockout of the Night" honors. Prior to the win, he suffered his first UFC loss against Dong Hyun Kim at UFC 100 in July.
Grant sports a 2-1 UFC record, with a win in his Octagon debut against Ryo Chonan at UFC 97 in April 2009. The longtime King of the Cage and TKO veteran has finished all but one of his 15 career wins including an impressive 12 wins coming by submission, and he holds other notable career wins over former UFC fighters Chad Reiner and Forrest Petz.
