Jon Fitch recently received the go-ahead from doctors to return to full time training and now states his willingness to fight whoever the UFC matches up for him according to mmamania.com.
Fitch has been recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in his last bout, a draw with BJ Penn at UFC 127. Since that fight, Fitch has stated his desires to fight only former champions or current champions in order to further his MMA career.
This is a tall order as most of the UFC's former and current champions are booked for many upcoming events, this includes Penn who Fitch was originally scheduled to rematch and is now fighting Carlos Condit instead. As such, Fitch opts to stay busy rather than taking a layoff to wait for a desired match up.
"Everyone I really want to fight is busy, so I'll fight whoever they (UFC) tell me right now. Just don't want to wait to fight" Fitch said.
A sensible match up would be against Rory MacDonald. MacDonald has stated that he would "gladly" fight Fitch and the fight itself would make sense in the division, an up and coming prospect versus and proven veteran. MacDonald is on a two fight win streak, last dispatching Mike Pyle in dominating fashion via TKO in the first round of UFC 133.
Fitch has also announced his wishes of fighting at UFC 139 in San Jose, hometown to the American Kickboxing Academy where he trains from, although his future opponent remains to be officially booked.
