Jon Fitch: "I'll fight whoever they (UFC) tell me right now"
by Hubert Lau on August 18, 2011

Jon Fitch recently received the go-ahead from doctors to return to full time training and now states his willingness to fight whoever the UFC matches up for him according to mmamania.com.

Fitch has been recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in his last bout, a draw with BJ Penn at UFC 127. Since that fight, Fitch has stated his desires to fight only former champions or current champions in order to further his MMA career.

This is a tall order as most of the UFC's former and current champions are booked for many upcoming events, this includes Penn who Fitch was originally scheduled to rematch and is now fighting Carlos Condit instead. As such, Fitch opts to stay busy rather than taking a layoff to wait for a desired match up.

"Everyone I really want to fight is busy, so I'll fight whoever they (UFC) tell me right now. Just don't want to wait to fight" Fitch said.

A sensible match up would be against Rory MacDonald. MacDonald has stated that he would "gladly" fight Fitch and the fight itself would make sense in the division, an up and coming prospect versus and proven veteran. MacDonald is on a two fight win streak, last dispatching Mike Pyle in dominating fashion via TKO in the first round of UFC 133.

Fitch has also announced his wishes of fighting at UFC 139 in San Jose, hometown to the American Kickboxing Academy where he trains from, although his future opponent remains to be officially booked.

 |  (67) Comments SicJits: Is Kos taken? GO HARD: lol u know that would be the first fight Dana makes... SicJits: I'd say have them fight for contender spot, and if either one refused...cut em. They are employees/contractors of the UFC, tired of guys think they can call their own fight and teamates that won't fight each other. Props to Bones and sorry Shad's butthurt about it SicJits: but realisticly Kos and Fitch are both contenders at ww and we'll never see this fight cause their teamates......even though this fight makes more sense at ww then most. seedheadondatrak: I have absolutely no interest in seeing a Kos vs Fitch fight.....not bcuz they're teammates, but bcuz i dont care to see either one of them fight. will i watch them? of course, but to me they arent the "Oh I cant wait to see him fight" fighters. Just saying lol Wandering_Minstrel: Fitch would completely roll Kos. Just sayin'. Rory vs. Fitch makes a lot of sense. IwishIwasMMA: Bj has sick wrestling though. It is under used, but the guy has crazy good wrestling. Some of the most underrated offensive wrestling in mma right now. I think fitch wins the stand up or ground game with kos though. Giada Esposito: In descending order of who I would like to see Fitch matched against next: Number 1: Anthony Johnson Number 2: winner of Shields vs. Ellenberger Number 3: Rory Macdonald Number 4: winner Sanchez vs. Hughes I think Johnson would challenge Fitch with his strength, size, wrestling base, and powerful striking, but I would expect Fitch to weather the early storm and wear him down. Still, it would be an interesting fight style-wise. The winner of Shields vs. Ellenberger is an obvious top-talent matchup for Fitch, but likely to be pretty boring to watch. MacDonald I just don't think is ready yet, but he is exciting to watch and good for him for wanting the challenge. Still, I think it's too early to feed him to Fitch and getting Fitched would be a big setback for him right now. I'd much rather see Rory fight Alves if he wants a big name contender- that would be a tough fight, but a lot more winnable for him, IMO. The winner of Sanchez vs. Hughes is an obvious UFC management type of pick, but I think it would be even more boring to watch then Fitch vs. the winner of Shields vs. Ellenberger. IwishIwasMMA: Well, IMO Fitch is a better grappler than Shields anyway. And not riding Fitch's nuts, I just have to adhere to what he has done. horizontalcracker: All of you forgot Kos says he's fighting at MW next anyways :D Giada Esposito: I do believe Kos said he was just going to do one fight at MW before dropping back to WW again... Kind of odd, really. Maybe he's hoping that GSP will move up to MW after one more fight. :D GO HARD: i wasnt sleepy tonight until i watched gsp vs kos on unleashed... how do u hurt someone that early in the fight... and cant finish them is beyond me... now i have to go to the judges to see if i can comment on andy in this thread... *gets thumbs up* andy would have finished his opponent if they only had one eye for 4 rounds... i think andy would have put one hand over one of his eyes, just to make it almost fair. IwishIwasMMA: Fitch has also beaten Shields in a grappling match. I believe they only had two or three.. and the one with an actual purse was the one that Fitch won. Giada Esposito: A win's a win. If you step into the ring or the cage with Fitch and don't come out with your hand raised, you can't say you're better than him. And for years, the only person to do that has been GSP. I don't like his style, but you can't deny his skills.
