UFC light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones, plans to stay busy in 2012 with four fights according to mmamania.com.
"My goal is to finish every fight in 2012. If I do that, a lot of other things will fall into place naturally. I want to finish every opponent. I've been thinking recently about trying to compete four times in the year again," Jones said.
2011 was a big year for Jones who rose from contender to two time defending champion in that span. A guillotine choke submission win over Ryan Bader at UFC 126 kicked off 2011 on a high note for Jones who was also award a title shot the same night.
His next fight was against then-champion, Mauricio Rua, at UFC 128, winning in dominating fashion en route to a third round TKO. Subsequent title defense against Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida yielded strong performances as well and Jones looks to repeat his success in 2012.
"I grew so much as a person that by doing that again in 2012 will just make me a better athlete. Originally I said I wanted to take off four or five months, but I may reconsider and come back sooner and have three or four fights this year," Jones said.
Jones is still just 24 years old and is already looking to establish a reign akin to Anderson Silva's middleweight championship. Before he can do that, however, he will need to defend his belt against his next opponent who is the winner of the Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis matchup set for UFC on Fox 2. Evans is the favorite to win the fight and if he does, a grudge match between the former teammates will finally happen.
