UFC light heavyweight champion wants to jump back into the Octagon as soon as possible says UFC president, Dana White, according to mmafighting.com.
"He had said he wanted to take some time off (but) he called about four days ago and said, 'OK, let's go. Let's get back to work. I'm ready to get productive again.' He wants to fight as soon as possible," White said.
Jones had a productive 2011, fighting four times in a span where he captured the UFC's light heavyweight title from Shogun Rua and defend the belt against Quinton Jackson and Lyoto Machida in successive fights. Jones originally wanted some time off to rest and recuperate but 24-year-old is eager to build upon his 2011 momentum instead.
Looking ahead towards possible matchups, Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will battle at UFC on Fox 2 to see who gets the next crack at Jones' title. However since Jones wants to fight soon, UFC 145 still lacks a main event in which Jones can be featured in. And a possible opponent is none other than Dan Henderson.
"We've got to see how this thing plays out but what could end up happening is Dan Henderson fights Jon Jones first," White said.
If Jones vs. Henderson is booked for UFC 145, or some other upcoming event, it can potentially conflict with the winner of Evans vs. Davis since they would have to wait for their own title contention.
"I think we have a ton of guys. It's not like everything depends on one guy or two guys. The great thing about us is we've got 10 of 15 guys so it's never like we have to depend on one person," White said.
