The injury bug has hit the historical UFC 100 event for the first time as Jonathan Goulet has been forced to bow out of his welterweight bout with Dong Hyun Kim due to a dislocated shoulder he suffered in training.
News of the injury came via Goulet's Facebook page.
"I tried very hard to being back but I can’t," Goulet wrote. "It's official I wouldn’t be a part of the historical moment, I wouldn’t be a part of the UFC 100. I dislocated my shoulder. I’m very angry and sad.”
Jonathan Goulet was coming off a loss to Mike Swick at Ultimate Fight Night 16 this past December and now holds a even 4-4 record with the UFC. Prior to the loss, the French-Canadian put together a three fight win streak, including two UFC wins over Paul Georgieff and Kuniyoshi Hironaka. Goulet sports a 22-10 overall MMA record with 19 of his wins by stoppage and holds notable wins over Jay Hieron, John Alessio, Luke Cummo, and Shonie Carter. The UFC has yet to officially announced Goulet's departure from the event as he is still on the listed on their official fight card.
Dong Hyun Kim is coming off a loss to Karo Parisyan at UFC 94, which was later ruled at "No Contest" by the NSAC after Parisyan tested postive for illegal painkillers. Prior to UFC 94, Kim was victorious in first two UFC outings, besting Matt Brown and Jason Tan.
UFC 100 takes place on July 11 in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the main event, UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar will fight interim champ Frank Mir to determine an undisputed heavyweight champion. In the co-main event, UFC welterweight champ Georges St. Pierre will defend his belt against worthy number one contender, Thiago Alves. Also, "Ultimate Fighter" season 9 coaches Dan Henderson and Michael Bisping will fight with the winner getting a possible middleweight title shot.
