"I just felt him out. I knew I was stronger and quicker, and I knew I had the wrestling advantage so I used that and caught a good elbow. Some people don't know how great submissions I have, and I saw him kind of vulnerable with the cut and I went for it. That's one of my moves and I got it. I want to thank Miguel. He was an amazing opponent. He's done so much for the weight class and put it on the map. It was just an honor fighting him. Coming out with the victory is just surreal, just amazing. It's huge for me to win this fight. I've matured a ton and did some things I would have never done before. I always thought I was going to go in there and react on my instincts and be a step ahead. When I went in my last time, I met someone who was just as athletic and got me. I went in and changed a lot of things and just want to be up there where I'm supposed to be. I know I can improve and been non-stop in the gym." -Joseph Benavidez
Joseph Benevidez reacts to his big win over Miguel Torres this past Saturday at WEC 47. Benavidez was a 2-to-1 underdog going into WEC 47 against a re-focused Torres who had come off of a difficult loss to Brian Bowles in his last outing. Not only did Benavidez manage to defeat Torres, but the Team Alpha Male product became only the second fighter to finish Torres in his 40 fight career.
Benavidez moved his overall MMA record to an outstanding 12-1 in his mixed martial arts career and may have put himself into a position to avenge his only loss, a three round decision to newly minted bantamweight champion, Dominick Cruz.
