A crucial bantamweight bout between Joseph Benavidez and Dominick Cruz has been signed for WEC 42 on August 9th. The news of the bout came courtesy of Five Ounces Of Pain.
WEC 42 will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada with the event's headliner as a bantamweight title fight between current champ Miguel Torres and top contender Brian Bowles. The winner of the Benavidez vs. Cruz bout could be next in-line for a title shot.
Since entering the WEC, Benavidez has pushed his undefeated record to an outstanding 10-0 with impressive wins over Danny Martinez at WEC 37 and most recently Jeff Curran at last month's WEC 40.
The surging Cruz is on a 4-fight win streak with wins over Kenneth Aimes, Ian McCall, Charlie Valencia and most recently Ivan Lopez in April. Cruz sports a near perfect 13-1 MMA record and suffered his only loss in his WEC debut against Benavidez's training partner Urijah Faber at WEC 26.
