Josh Barnett offered Pro Wrestling match on Aug. 9
by Jason Benfari on July 25, 2009

Josh Barnett's recently failed drug test set off a firestorm of controversy and precipitated the fall of a major MMA fight card which, in essence, dealt Affliction, the promotion, its final death blow. After canceling the card, due in large part, to an inability to replace Barnett, Affliction folded its promotional tent, after losing more than 10 million dollars, to scurry back under the protection of the UFC and focus on promoting their clothing line.

Barnett has been charged with using anabolic steroids, a practice that's illegal in the U.S. and will likely garner the former UFC heavyweight a hefty fine and suspension from the California State Athletic Commission. Steroid use usually carries a one year suspension, but that suspension holds no jurisdiction outside of the U.S., meaning that Barnett is free to take his show back to Japan where he has fought the majority of his career.

In fact, Barnett has already been offered a chance to compete again as soon as 16 days from now in Tokyo at Ariake Colosseum for IGF, a Japanese pro wrestling outfit. It's unclear at this time who he'll be facing, but Barnett, it appears, will land on his feet.
