A very pivotal featherweight bout between contenders Josh Grispi and L.C. Davis is in the works for the televised portion of the WEC 49 main card in June. News of the bout was first reported by MMAjunkie.com.
WEC 49 takes place on June 20 at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and it will be the promotion's first-ever event in Canada. The event's main card will air live on Versus.
It will have been a year since Grispi has fought when he competes this June. Days before his fight with Jens Pulver at WEC 41, he suffered a ankle injury, however, he agreed to stay in the fight anyway and went onto defeat Pulver. He has since undergone surgery for the injury.
Grispi is currently riding a nine-fight win streak, which include wins in his first three WEC fights over Mark Hominick, Micah Miller and the aforementioned win over Pulver at WEC 41 last June. Prior to the impressive winning streak, Grispi suffered his first career loss against Henrique Bilcalho in December 2006. He sports a near perfect 13-1 MMA record, scoring stoppages in all but one of his 13 wins.
Davis (16-3) has won his last three bouts, also notching wins in his first three WEC fights against Javier Vazquez at WEC 42, Diego Nunes at WEC 44 and most recently Deividas Taurosevicius at WEC 47 last month. He previously suffered just his second career loss against Michihiro Omigawa at Sengoku 7.
Davis has been competing professionally for four-years, while fighting for other notable promotions such as Titan Fighting Championships, Adrenaline MMA, Affliction and IFL. He has finished 11 of his 16 career wins and holds notable career victories over Conor Heun, Rafael Dias and Bao Quach.
