Josh Koscheck: Hardy doesn't deserve title shot; not worried about Johnson's size
by Natalia Baage on November 17, 2009

"No. He doesn't deserve a title shot.   It's simple, but I don't make those decisions. They're just trying to get someone for [UFC welterweight champion Georges] St. Pierre to beat up.  I just have to take care of business on Saturday, and I'll let my work speak for where I belong."  - Josh Koscheck

In an interview with Heavy.com, UFC welterweight Josh Koscheck talks about Dan Hardy, title contention and his upcoming fight against Anthony Johnson.

While Koscheck does not think that Hardy deserves a title shot after beating Koscheck's AKA teammate Mike Swick at last week's UFC 105 event, he does believe that he will get his own title shot again at some point in his career.

When Koscheck fought Paulo Thiago earlier this year in February, he was in the position to fight UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre next.  However, Koscheck lost that fight and the opportunity was gone.  In order to be considered a title contender, he said, he has to get through his next opponent.

And next up is a welterweight battle against Anthony Johnson at UFC 106, which takes place on Nov. 21.

During the weigh ins of Johnson's last fight at UFC 104, he missed weight by five pounds, coming in at 176 lbs.  There has been talk about whether Johnson should stay in the welterweight division or if he should move up a weight class and fight at 185 lbs.  However, Koscheck said that Johnson's size will not be a problem for him.

"Look at Fitch.  Look at Swick.  They're both big welterweights and I get to train with those guys.  I train with a lot of big guys at my gym...  Jake Shields was in our gym for the last portion of his training camp and he weighed like 196...  And I'm not a small welterweight either.  I might be short, but I'm very thick, and I usually walk into the cage right around 187."

Koscheck's fight against Johnson can be seen live via pay-per-view on Saturday night during the UFC 106 event.

Little_Kang: Kos doesn't need to worry about AJ's size, he needs to worry about AJ's power mmalissa: never worry about the size of the johnson...
