Today saw a flurry of fight bookings for January's UFC Fight Night 20 event, with the latest addition to the card being a welterweight bout between 15-fight UFC veteran Josh Koscheck and welterweight prospect Mike Pierce.
Koscheck broke the news of the bout via his personal Twitter page:
"Fighting January 11 2010 spike tv vs Mike Pierce UFN 20 Like I said don't care who I fight or where just get me someone who wants to fight"
Koscheck (13-4) has been back and forth, going 2-2 in his last four bouts. He rebounded from a shocking upset loss against Paulo Thiago in February to most recently defeat 12-year veteran Frank Trigg at UFC 103 in September. Koscheck has fought nearly his entire his career with the UFC, with 15 of his 17 career bouts under the promotion.
The American Kickboxing Academy product has gone 11-4 with the UFC, scoring notable Octagon wins over Dustin Hazelett, Pete Spratt, Chris Lytle, Dave Menne, Yoshiyuki Yoshida and Diego Sanchez.
Pierce is currently on a six-fight winning streak, which includes wins over Justin Haskins, Paul Bradley and, most recently, scoring an upset win over Brock Larson in his UFC debut at UFN 19 on Sept. 16. Prior to the winning streak, he suffered his lone career loss against Nathan Coy at SportFight 23 in June 2008.
Pierce sports a near flawless MMA record of 10-1, with six of his wins coming via TKO. He holds other notable wins in his career over past TUF alums Mike Dolce and Mark Miller.
The UFC Fight Night 20 event is in the works for Jan. 11 in VA., and the main card will air live on Spike TV.
