Josh Thomson vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri at DREAM "Dynamite!! 2010"
by Steven Ritchey on December 09, 2010

An exciting lightweight match-up between Strikeforce's Josh Thomson (18-3) and DREAM's Tatsuya Kawajiri (22-6-2) is scheduled to take place at the annual Dynamite!! New Year's Eve event on December 31.

Kawajiri has been victorious in 11 of his last 14 fights. His three losses in that span were against three of the world's top lightweight fighters in Shinya Aoki (26-5), Eddie Alvarez (21-2), and Gilbert Melendez (18-2); the respective current lightweight champions of DREAM, Bellator Fighting Championships, and Strikeforce. Kawajiri's forth most recent loss was to Takanori Gomi (32-6) in 2005, the eventual winner of the Pride Lightweight Grand Prix.

There is no doubt Kawajiri has been fighting top notch opponents, in the past 7 years the Japanese native lost exclusively to champions or future champions. Kawajiri will be looking to prove himself once more against former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson, and work his way to becoming more than a fighter with one of the most impressive loss columns. With a win Kawajiri will be looking to build towards a rematch with Aoki and DREAM lightweight gold.

Meanwhile, Thomson is looking to add to his two fight win streak since losing his Strikeforce lightweight title by decision to Gilbert Melendez at Strikeforce: Evolution. Thomson has won 10 of his past 11 fights and is already back in title contention with recent victories over Pat Healy (23-16) and Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante (15-3-1).

DREAM Dynamite!! 2010 will takes place in Saitama, Japan and air on HDNET in North America.

 |  (4) Comments Wandering_Minstrel: I hope Kawajiri kicks his ass. mike5k: Kawajiri/Alvarez was one of my favorite fights ever. Kawajiri's good and I used to under rate Thomson just because I don't really like him but this is a solid fight. D_V: Solid fight. Kawajiri will win do to Judging bias in Japan. Thompson would win in USA. I hope the crusher KOs him though but Thompson is very tough.
