Junior dos Santos looking to KO Alistair Overeem at UFC 146
by Hubert Lau on February 10, 2012

Junior dos Santos confident against heavyweight title challenger, Alistair Overeem, and looks for a knockout at their UFC 146 meeting according to tatame.com.

"Overeem is really a tough, dangerous, heavy and really strong guy. I see him as a good challenge. Probably he's accepting the stand-up fight. To me, it can go to the floor or on our feet. He's very dangerous, but I gotta use my speed. I really believe in me, I'm always confident about my attitudes," dos Santos said.

Their matchup booked for May 26 will be a meeting of two of the UFC's most talented strikers. Overeem had a well publicized career as a kickboxer who held the heavyweight title in K-1. He found similar success in MMA, former Strikerforce heavyweight champion, and last defeated Brock Lesnar at UFC 141 via first round TKO. That victory marked a successful UFC debut and also gave him his 15 TKO/KO victory of his 36 overall MMA wins. Despite his résumé, dos Santos has absolute confidence in his own abilities.

"I really believe I can beat him. And as any fight, I'll get there to knock him out. It won't be different this time, I'm going there to knock him out," dos Santos said.

Dos Santos is also known as a deadly striker, holding 10 TKO/KO wins and last KO'ed Cain Velasquez at UFC on Fox in 94 seconds of the opening round to capture the heavyweight title. As evident in his bouts with Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson, dos Santos can withstand punishment from heavy hitters as well.

"I'm prepared for the good and bad moments of the fight. The main thing is for the fighter to know how to get hit too. If you're only a fighter in good times, you're going down soon I believe I'm prepared for both situations," dos Santos said.

If dos Santos connects first in a similar fashion to his fight with Velasquez, there is a real possibility Overeem will be down for the count. Overeem has been knocked out six times of his eleven defeats in his MMA career which have led some to question the vulnerability of his chin.

"It'll be a hard fight, it's gonna come down to who hits the other first. The impact of a heavyweight punch can knock one out in a second," dos Santos said.

UFC 146 is set for May 26 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It's hard seeing anyone beating Overeem. He's. different. nygiant: All JDS has to do to win this is avoid a kick to the liver or head...JDS will outstrike Overeem(k-1 blah blah blah) and we know JDS can take a punch to the chin as evidenced in that bomb he took from Carwin. Carwin's wrestling is WAY better then Overeems and Carwin could barely take him down and when he did(which I believe was only once) he got right back up. JDS by tko or UD Wandering_Minstrel: I don't know who is gonna win, but I do know that I may not be able to leave my room for days... fap, fap, fap...
