Junior dos Santos vs. Roy Nelson being considered for UFC 117
by Jacob Camargo on May 10, 2010

A heavyweight bout between The Ultimate Fighter 10 winner Roy Nelson and fast rising contender Junior dos Santos is reportedly in the works for the televised main card portion of the UFC 117 card in August.

Dos Santos is currently riding a six-fight winning streak, most recently scoring an impressive first round TKO win over Gabriel Gonzaga at UFC on Versus 1 in March. The win moved him to a perfect 5-0 in the UFC, with previous stoppage wins inside the Octagon coming against Fabricio Werdum, Stefan Struve, Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic and Gilbert Yvel.

Dos Santos has not been defeated since suffering his first career loss against Joaquim Ferreira in November of 2007 in Brazil. He sports a near perfect MMA record of 11-1, with all of his wins being by stoppage including eight by TKO or KO.

Nelson (15-4) was expected to face Cheick Kongo at UFC 116 in July, however, plans for the bout were scrapped after Kongo was forced off of the event with a back injury.

Nelson is currently on a two-fight winning streak, picking up wins in his first two UFC fights. He most recently defeated Stefan Struve at UFC Fight Night 21 where he notched a first round TKO over the 6'11" Dutch youngster. Nelson previously scored a win over Brendan Schaub via first round knockout to take the TUF 10 heavyweight tournament at December's "The Ultimate Fighter" season 10 finale.

Prior to his wins inside the Octagon, Nelson lost two straight fights against Andrei Arlovski and Jeff Monson. Besides stints in EliteXC and Bodog Fight, he first truly made his mark in the MMA world while competing for the now-defunct IFL promotion where he captured the organization's heavyweight title and put together a 6-1 record.

Though not officially announced, UFC 117 is expected take place on August 7 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, California, and will likely be headlined by a UFC middleweight title bout between current champion Anderson Silva and outspoken challenger Chael Sonnen.

 |  (10) Comments JujitsWho: Cigano FTW.........easily xxxFishxxx: I was thinking Roy might have a decent chance of beating Kongo, but no way is he going to beat JDS. This is where Roy cements his place as a mid-level gatekeeper. arlovskiviako: Yes, Arlovski Vs Nelson 2. Wandering_Minstrel: Said it elsewhere, but... JDS is gonna fuck Nelson up. Ares: Ridiculous fight. Castle: Ouch. I thought Kongo would have been a tough fight that he could have pulled off but this just seems....almost unfair. The Hitman: Sucks to be Nelson Masternate: i dont think nelson will get absolutley demolished but jds will take this. Mickey knox: This winning streak the the belly has been on is about to come to a screeching hault. I still think it would be more appropriate to have Nelson fight Zaga or Mir, and JDS should be fighting Cain, but whatever. I wouldn't mind seeing Nelson take a beat down. D_V: It's not 100% this easy. JDS is still not as good people think but he'll probably KO Nelson. I won't be shocked if Roy is competitive because he gets it to the ground though.
