Justin Wren released by the UFC
by Jacob Camargo on December 11, 2009

The Ultimate Fighter 10 cast member Justin Wren is no longer an employee of the UFC, as the 22-year-old fighter was released by the promotion following a recent loss in his official Octagon debut. News of Wren's release from the UFC was first reported by MMA FanHouse.

Wren joins other fighters who have recently been cut by the UFC, including middleweight Denis Kang, welterweight Brock Larson, as well as lightweights Jason Dent and Roli Delgado.

Wren was a member of Team Rashad on The Ultimate Fighter 10 reality show. He did fairly well in the competition, advancing in the heavyweight tournament by defeating UFC veteran Wes Sims via first-round submission. However, Wren would go onto lose to the eventual TUF 10 winner Roy Nelson via majority decision in the quarterfinals.

Wren entered TUF as a highly regarded prospect, who was a decorated high school and collegiate wrestler. Some of his many accolades include being a two-time All-American in Greco Roman, winning the National Championship in Fargo, ND, the summer after his senior year in high school. The championship earned him a scholarship to the Olympic Training Center in Michigan to train for the Olympics to compete in Greco Roman wrestling.

Wren's UFC debut loss came against fellow TUF 10 cast member Jon Madsen at last Saturday's TUF 10 Finale. Prior to the loss, he had won four straight fights, with all of the wins being by stoppage. Wren has put together an 8-2 MMA record since turning pro in Oct. 2006. He has finished all of his eight career wins including six by TKO.
