KOTC welterweight champ Mike "Joker" Guymon signs with the UFC
by Jacob Camargo on October 10, 2009

The UFC continues to add to its already stacked welterweight division as the promotion recently signed King of the Cage welterweight champion Mike "Joker" Guymon. Financial terms were not readily available, however, the contract is set for four fights.

Guymon announced his deal with the UFC on the popular MMA forum, The Underground. It is not yet known when Guymon will debut with the UFC or who he will face.

"Alighty here we go...I just got offered a 4 fight deal with the UFC!!!!!!" wrote Guymon on The Underground. "I feel so blessed and thankful for all the people in my life. This has been the craziest year by far. This has taken me just over 10 years to accomplish. Through that time there have been countless people and sponsors that made it possible, I love you all. I literally cried for 3 hours from sheer joy and the long road that I had traveled to this point. Thank you so much Joe Silva, Dana, Tim Katz, Dan Caldwell, And Chris from the UG that made this all happen. I know that the 170 division is stacked and all fights will be tough in there, but I promise that I will be ready in all facets of the game to give everyone their monies worth - Win or Lose!!!!"

Guymon enters the UFC with a good streak, as he is 9-1 in his last 10 bouts, which includes five straight wins coming by stoppage. He most recently defeated Quinn Mulhern on Oct. 1 at KOTC: "Distorted." He has not been defeated since suffering a split decision loss against MFC welterweight champion Pat Healy at an IFL event in June 2007.

The 35-year-old Guymon has been competing professionally for 10 years, fighting 10 of his 14 career fights with the King of the Cage promotion. He has put together a 11-2-1 MMA record, with all of his wins being by stoppage. "Joker" holds notable career wins over the likes of Thomas Schulte, Ray Perales and Anthony Lapsley. Besides the aforementioned loss to Healy, his only other career loss came at the hands of current UFC lightweight title contender Diego Sanchez.

Besides fighting professionally, Guymon also runs Joker's Wild Fighting Academy, a popular gym based out of Lake Forest, Calif.
